Greg received his B.B.A. in Economics from the University of Memphis in 1982 and his law degree from the University Of South Carolina School Of Law. He was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 1986, and has also been admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.
Prior to serving in the State Senate, Greg served as the City Attorney for North Myrtle Beach from 1995-1999 before winning election as the 15th Circuit Solicitor for Horry and Georgetown Counties - a position he held for 14 years. In that office Greg prosecuted our community’s most dangerous criminals and brought innovative solutions to the criminal justice system. In 2012, Greg felt the call to run for the State Senate. He was elected with 67% of the vote and has been subsequently re-elected in 2016 and 2020.

He also has served as a majority whip and was elected Chairman of the 2013 Senate Freshman Caucus by his fellow freshmen Senators.
Greg and his wife Renee have three grown children that are married and five grandchildren that live in Horry County. Greg and Renee reside in Little River and are active members of Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church. In his spare time Greg likes to enjoy the natural beauty of South Carolina by camping, hunting, hiking and biking. He is an avid triathlete and has been racing for many years.
